South Main Drain I - FM 493 to SH 107
About the project

The South Main Drain I FM 493 to SH107 project is a maintenance and operations project that will allow for a more efficient maintenance operations project that will allow for a more efficient maintenance operation of the drain while creating more capacity in the system. The drain currently serves as the major outfall for various HCDD1, Irrigation and Texas Department of Transportation laterals including the Edinburg Stub, South Min Drain II, PSJA Lateral, Pharr-McAllen Lateral, FM 495 Drain, K-07-01 Drain, K-07-02 Drain, LJ Drain, Trenton Drain, Alberta Drain, Cesar Chavez Drain, Weslaco North lateral, Donna North Lateral and Alamo Lateral. This phase of work also provides capacity to the new Hidalgo County Precinct No. 4 Sunflower Park via the new Sunflower Alternate Drain. HCDD1, through in-house engineering staff, prepared the design plans and performed the construction management and inspection services for the project. HCDD1 performed all the improvements to the ditch through in-house forces. The FM 493 to SH107 ditch limit had a volume of approximately 832,288 cy (168,100,558 gallons) before improvements. Once the improvements were made, the new ditch has a capacity of approximately 1,777,072 cy (358,922,386 gallons).
